With a 75 kWh lithium ion battery pack installed in the floor of the chassis, the Model 3 Long Range AWD replaced the earlier Model 3 Long Range RWD in 2019. Providing up to 310 miles of driving range on a single charge in its first model year, the dual-motor Model 3 Long Range expanded road-tripping capabilities for the mid-size luxury electric sedan.
The compact design of the Model 3 Long Range also received good reviews for driving performance and safety. One feature that many buyers are unsure of, however, was the all glass roof, with hot climate owners occasionally complaining that the cabin overheats. Still, the panoramic view delivered by the roof is a delight to passengers unused to experiencing so much visual freedom while still inside a car.
The exterior of the Model 3 Long Range was distinguished by smooth, aerodynamic lines and the conspicuous lack of a front grille. A modest set of two Wheel options, one in an 18” Aero design and another in a 19” Sport design, offered either efficiency and reduced road noise or better grip and cornering, respectively. Paint options included a conservative palette of five choices: Solid Black, Deep Blue Metallic, Pearl White Multi-Coat, Red Multi-Coat, and Midnight Silver Multi-Coat.
On the inside, the Model 3 Long Range was a comfortable 5-seater with synthetic Vegan Leather material and a starkly uncluttered dash. The 15” Touchscreen Control Panel housed nearly all of the vehicle’s functionality save for a few levers located near the wheel. Interior color choices on the Long Range came as All Black, with a Wood trim piece to add luxury-feel interest to the minimalism, or as Black and White.
Autopilot came standard on the Model 3 Long Range as Tesla was now adding the software to all of its vehicles as a safety enhancement. In hardware configuration AP3, the Model 3 Long Range was capable of all basic Autopilot features and the optional Full Self Driving programming, which now included Traffic Sign and Traffic Light Control. Tesla’s Full Self Driving packages also came with the promise that autonomous driving abilities will eventually become available through over-the-air updates to the software.
