Rivian is a new, exciting brand—somewhat unlike Tesla or other EVs, and because of that it’s not uncommon for people to have questions about them. As experts in the EV world, we’ve taken some time to answer the most commonly-asked questions about used Rivian R1T and R1S vehicles.
Yes, you can! Unfortunately Rivian production numbers are incredibly low in comparison to Tesla (only about 3500 vehicles total to date), so it’s a lot more difficult to find one than it is to find a used Tesla. That said, Find My Electric is one of the best places on the internet you can look to track down a used Rivian R1S and R1T.
The cheapest Rivian is the R1T with the Explore Package, which starts at $67,500 as the base MSRP. However, this can be optioned above $85,000 very quickly with choices like the Max Battery Pack, etc. And, some of these options/configurations won’t even be delivered until 2024.
Yes—you can! But production is backed out quite a bit, so it’s possible that you won’t get yours (if you purchase a new one now) until 2023 or later. The good news is that there are some used Rivians hitting the market, and they’re available to buyers right now on Find My Electric!
This is possible, and no one really knows for sure—but with the state of price inflation in the US and the shortage of materials (chips, battery lithium, etc.) it’s relatively unlikely that this will happen (in our opinion).
Yes! Rivian makes an SUV called the Rivian R1S (“S” for SUV, vs. the R1T with “T” for truck). This has not been delivered yet and the only used Rivian vehicles available at the moment are R1Ts, but this will change in the near future.
A Rivian R1T costs $67,500 for the cheapest option (the Explore Package) and $73,000 for the Adventure Package. Keep in mind that this is base pricing, and higher end wheels, tires, and battery options can quickly raise this base price by thousands.
The Rivian R1S was supposed to be released in December 2021, but this has since been pushed back with the official release date slated for June or July 2022.
The base towing capacity of a Rivian R1T is approximately 11,000 lbs, but this can significantly affect the range by as much as 50%, so this is something to keep in mind when towing.
The Rivian R1S is 201 inches long, or 16.75 feet. (compare this to a 2022 Ford F-150 length if 209.10″ to 250.3″ or approximately 17.5 – 20.85 feet.)
The Rivian Adventure Network is a nationwide network of fast charging stations designed for Rivian vehicles, similar to the Tesla Supercharger network.
