We’re selling our 2023 Tesla Model X Plaid. It’s the 1,020-horsepower Plaid version, and it has been an excellent vehicle for us, fast, quiet, safe, and extremely comfortable, yet surprisingly practical. The car is super clean inside and out, very well cared for, and has under 50k miles at the time of posting. Interior and exterior are both about a 9.5/10. It’s spacious, luxurious, and still feels tight and solid like a much newer car. Non-smoker, no kids, no pets, no off-smells, so the car has remained exceptionally “like-new”. Car was always kept in our heated garage.
The vehicle carries Tesla’s factory transferable warranty through 10 years or 150,000 miles, which was a big reason we were comfortable owning it. There is no accident history, no structural damage, and no mechanical issues of any kind, and overall the bodywork is exceptional. Twice a year, we’d have it professionally cleaned, and the paint was buffed and waxed. I opted NOT to add the body wrap or protective wrap, as I’ve heard some horror stories down the road. Subsequently however, there are a few small chips on the hood, but they are very minor, but I’d like to be honest in the full condition disclosure, therefore I opted to not cover them up with touchup paint, so what you see is exactly what you can expect. Tires were just replaced less than 500 miles ago at the Tesla service center with factory-configuration Continental tires – a $2700 bill. The battery has been treated conservatively and typically kept around an 80% charge to support long-term health, and almost always charged (slower) from our home charger – very few Supercharger charges since our ownership. Additionally replaced at the service center recently were the front half shafts to the updated parts that are more durable and smoother, and also the driver’s side door actuator, since those too have a limited lifespan. Essentially, we wanted the car “sale ready”.
This is a Hardware 4 car, which means noticeably better cameras and improved nighttime visibility compared to earlier versions. If you care about FSD or driver assistance at all, HW4 is a meaningful upgrade. The car was originally a California vehicle, and in Wisconsin, has had only very limited snow/salt exposure. A few other details we like about the X especially, are the auto-opening doors, which we have grown too used to. Also, the extremely quiet ride (even in comparison to other Tesla models, all of which we’ve driven at one point or another).
For full transparency, the car does have a manufacturer buyback history from its first owner. The original (CA) owner reported that the rear hatch would not always open. Under California law, Tesla was obligated to repurchase the vehicle when they could not resolve the concern within the required number of attempts. Tesla replaced the rear lift struts, thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and then rebranded it. Since I purchased the car at around 13k miles, I have not experienced a single issue with the rear hatch, it has worked perfectly every time without exception. We have heard that some states often abuse the buyback law, so we’re not sure if that’s the case or if the car genuinely had a problem early on, but we are confident this no longer affects the car’s value or reliability.
Overall, this is an exceptionally clean, well-maintained Model X Plaid with fresh tires, long remaining factory warranty, and no unresolved issues. It drives exactly as it should and has been completely reliable and enjoyable in our ownership. If you’re familiar with Tesla’s and understand the value here, this is a great example of a properly sorted Plaid. We are very sad to see it go, but are only selling this one so we can get two more! Thanks for looking! 🙂
