From longtime EV fans to those ready to make the switch to an EV thanks to the current climate crisis, consumers are wondering how to get their hands on a state-of-the-art Ford EV in a timely manner. Ford designed the Mustang Mach-E from the ground up to meet the overwhelming market need, and this electric pony car has seen solid sales numbers since 2021. Sales of the Ford Mustang Mach-E even outpaced sales of the traditional Ford Mustang in July of 2022.

So far, Ford’s electric crossover—a solid piece of competition for the Tesla Model Y—is performing well and seems to be well received by the EV community. So, when can you get your hands on Ford’s electric Mustang? Is there still a way to order a new 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E?

In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the current status of the 2023 Mach-E, how long it could take you to get one, and how to find a Mach-E for sale right now.

Great News! Mustang Mach-E Orders are Open Again

As of May 2nd (2023), order books for all four trim levels of the Ford Mustang Mach-E 2022 are reopened. You can place an order for any trim level and battery size, and there is no longer a reservation queue. But the best news of all? Most trim levels of the Mach-E have gone down in price from the 2022 MSRP for the Mach-E, sometimes as much as $2,000.

Since reservations for the Mustang Mach-E are no longer an option, the ordering process looks a little different. Instead of being contacted by Ford after your reservation number’s been pulled up, you can now put in an order for a Mach-E in 2 ways: by completing your order selections online, or by walking through the order with your local dealership.

Regardless of which way you make your order, you will complete the delivery process through a local dealership. This can make some of the seemingly clear-cut pricing on the website somewhat confusing: each dealership has different packages and perks that may add on to your price, and they do set the final price for your Mach-E.

With that said, the best way to clear up some of the confusion out about delivery day is by talking to your local dealership about final fees, prices, and dealership standard add-ons before you place your order online.

How long will it take to get a Ford Mustang Mach-E, from order to delivery? As it turns out, even though Ford used to give estimates on their website, that information is not particularly clear—Ford gives the current estimate as “delivery time varies.” Trim level, specific parts shortages and delays, and delivery region are all part of the equation, and no one seems to know exactly how these factors are currently affecting delivery.

However, unlike delivery experiences with a few other startup EV company deliveries, a delivery from Ford may surprise you in a good way by being earlier than projected. Several reports from customers state that they got their 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E delivered a week to a month sooner than anticipated.

Let’s take a quick look through each trim level of the 2023 Mustang Mach-E and their availability:

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Select Availability

Starting at $42,995 MSRP, the base model 2022 Mach-E Select is currently available to order. However, there aren’t very many of them sitting in dealership lots, so you aren’t likely to avoid the 2-5 month wait time for a new 2023 Mustang Mach-E Select.

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium Wait Times

Starting at $46,995 MSRP, the 2023 Mach-E Premium is currently available to order. You can still expect to find a handful of them in dealerships across the country, but ordering online may be a better way to get the battery size you want. The Mach-E Premium can come with either the normal or Extended-Range battery, so price and availability vary widely.

Other than the battery options, most of the pricing differences between the Premium and Select involve comfort/entertainment features and interior quality.

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 Delivery Time

Starting at $56,995 MSRP, the Mach-E California Route 1 is also a rare sight on dealership lots. The Mach-E California Route 1 comes with the Extended-Range battery as a standard feature, so it is highly affected by rising battery prices and materials shortages. However, they are available to order on Ford’s website, so Ford expects to be able to manufacture and deliver them within a reasonable amount of time (currently, this looks like it might be about 3-6 months).

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Delivery Estimates

Starting at $59,995 MSRP, the 2023 GT trim of the Ford Mach-E is the most available trim on dealership lots, and you may be able to pick one up from a Ford dealership near you in a short amount of time. However, getting a Mustang Mach-E GT on order should still take at least 3-6 months from order to delivery (if Ford maintains its current output).

How To Check on Your Ford Mach-E’s Delivery

Rumor has it that Ford updates production reports every two weeks, possibly on Wednesday. While we don’t have confirmation of this as a fact, the two week timeframe may help you stay a bit more calm during your wait for your Mach-E to hit production.

For those who ordered through a dealership, you may be able to get an early idea on where you stand in line with their Mach-E orders. You can call your dealership and ask for the priority code on your vehicle, and they should be able to provide you with a number from 1 through 20. Spot number 1 is the highest priority (meaning your Mustang Mach-E is next in line at that dealer), and spot 20 is the lowest priority. While you’re asking about the priority code, make sure to get your four digit order number to use on Ford’s website to check on any progress they may show there (you’ll typically use this after you get your VIN).

Ford should send you an email update on your expected production date when your priority code goes lower than 10. Don’t worry if you don’t see an update reflected on Ford’s tracking website right away; sometimes the website takes 4-5 days to reflect changes in production status.

After your Mustang Mach-E makes it to the dealership, congratulations! You should see it marked delivered on the tracking website, though the dealership may need a day or two to process things before you can drive off in your new Mach-E.

Delivery Estimates for the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E

If everything goes well for Ford in the next few months, we expect the 2023 Mach-E to sell out before Q4. Ford’s production facility in Cuautitlan, Mexico is currently managing about 395 units each day (for a total output of 11,858 units in the month of April), according to a recent report by Ford Authority), hopefully reducing the time between order and delivery by several months.

A reduced wait time for the Ford Mach-E from 4-8 months down to 2-5 months is fantastic news for consumers. And though battery cell shortages are also ongoing, an updated battery design (from Lithium Ion to Lithium Iron Phosphate) is expected for the 2023-2024 Mach-E that should help reduce the effect of the shortage.

What production delays might mean for the future production of the Mach-E is unclear, but Ford remains certain that they can secure enough material for their expected output.

How to Get a Ford Mach-E Right Now

Can you find a Mustang Mach E for sale in the marketplace? Absolutely, provided you have enough money and some time to hunt one down! Dealerships are currently stocked with a few trims of the Mustang Mach-E, mostly the GT and Premium.

However, the best way to get a good deal on a Mustang Mach-E is not by scouring dealership websites for their latest 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E. If you want to experience a Ford Mustang Mach-E without the sticker shock, consider buying used. Currently, most pre-owned Ford Mustang Mach-Es for sale have super low mileage and are in great condition.

With prices on the used EV market trending downward, you can find reasonably-priced Mach-Es lower than MSRP by as much as 10%-15% if you’re patient (sometimes up to 20% for a used 2021 Mustang Mach-E).

Where can you find these used electric pony cars? Right here on Find My Electric! We’ve taken the hard part out of searching for EVs so you can look through listings quickly and efficiently. No need to slog through a bunch of ICE Fords to find the electric Mustang on our site.
